Starting with version 2.0.x, WD SmartWare allows you to select specific (user selected) files and folders to create a backup. Please follow the instructions below for assistance in creating a backup plan of this type:
Critical:
|
- Launch WD SmartWare.
- On the Home tab, click on the picture of the drive you wish to use to store your backup. If you have multiple drives of the same type (such as in the image below) you will need to know the drive name in order to determine which drive you wish to use. Once selected the drive will have a light blue outline around it to indicate it is the selected drive.
- Click on the Backup tab.
- By default you will be in Category Backup mode. Click on the Switch to File Backup button.
- If this button does not exist you are not running version 2.0 or later of WD SmartWare and need to update prior to following these instructions.
- If the button says Switch to Category Backup you are already in File Backup mode and can skip the step above.
- Click on OK in order to continue to the File Backup option.
- Select the files and folders you wish to backup by placing a checkmark in the box next to them.
- When you have selected all the files and folders you wish to backup click the Apply Changes button. Depending on the speed of your computer and the number of files selected, the program may appear to hang for a moment.
- Click the Enable Backup button to begin your backup.
- When the backup is completed, the message Backup accomplished succesfully. will appear in the upper left corner of the Backup tab.

Note: | Certain files and folders will not appear in the list of folders. These folders (such as the C:Windows folder) are excluded as they include system files that are always in use by your Operating System (OS). In addition you may see files and folders that do not normally appear - these files/folders will be in a light grey - these files are normally hidden but are available to be backed up. |
